The research network has set out to identify the colonial contexts of university collections in Berlin and initiate a dialogue about how to ethically engage with them.
The Berlin University Alliance's collection platform provides centralized access to projects and activities related to university collections. The research network “Colonial Contexts” publishes its results within this framework.
It is an important task of the universities to address and explore the connections between their collections and colonial history.
As part of its collaboration with the “Colonial Contexts” project, the Digital Network for Collections provides the technical infrastructure for presenting the research network’s results. The authors of the research network are responsible for the scientific and editorial content.
In December 2024, a workshop on addressing colonial contexts of university collections was held in collaboration with Yann Le Gall, a representative of the research network.
