University collections as guests in Berlin
The 16th Annual Conference for Scientific University Collections 2025 is jointly organized by the partners of the Berlin University Alliance and the Gesellschaft für Universitätssammlungen e.V. (GfU).
It will take place from October 09-11, 2025 in Berlin.
Registration deadline is 20 September 2025.
“Unbekannte Gesichter” – Exhibition on the Alban Collection
From July 15, 2025
in the campus library (Fabeckstraße 23/25, 14195 Berlin, entrance on L-Straße in the Silberlaube).
Egyptology students at the FU have processed a donation of (ancient) Egyptian objects from the Alban family. This was done as part of the course Research History and Exhibition Practice using the Alban Collection as an example. The exhibition now on display shows selected objects in terms of their history and sheds light on the unknown faces behind them.
Teaching with Objects in the Winter Semester 2025/2026
During the winter semester, seminars will once again work with objects from Berlin’s university collections. Carolin Pommert, from the Institute for the History of Medicine and Ethics in Medicine at Charité, is engaging students in critically cataloging a collection of educational slides. The X-Student Research Group, “Anthropological Teaching in the GDR,” will focus on the historical and ethical examination of the images, as well as their cataloging using digital methods. With the support of the Digital Network for Collections, the still unexplored slides were digitized in advance.
