From April 22 to October 23, 2022, the Cast Collection of Ancient Sculptures in Charlottenburg presented an exhibition on the plaster cast of the Sleeping Ariadne, which illustrates the complex history of ancient sculptures over the centuries.
The Digital Network for Collections team helped the Cast Collection develop a digital version of the exhibition. Both the physical exhibition and the online presentation were created as part of the Cast Collection's teaching program. Students from the Institute of Classical Archaeology at Freie Universität Berlin were closely involved in the conception and implementation of both the physical and digital formats.
Thanks to the Digital Network for Collections’ tools, the seminar was able to implement this ambitious digital project without first setting up the necessary infrastructure, such as a content management system and front end: How can archaeological content be conveyed to a broad audience in an appropriate and attractive way through digital media? How does handling physical, three-dimensional objects in the cast collection's real space relate to arranging images, videos, and texts on a digital display?
Lorenz Winkler-Horaček, the curator of the plaster cast collection, reports on the collaborative work on the online exhibition in a post on our weblog.
