In addition to reproductions, the Winckelmann Institute’s archaeological teaching collection is home to original ancient artworks, in particular, ceramics. The digitization of the Institute’s holdings began some time ago. Part of the collection is available on HU Berlin’s collections portal. The goal is to document the entire collection in the university’s future central collection database.
The Digital Network for Collections is supporting the Winckelmann Institute by providing it with a “data hotel” and tools for mapping and transferring old data, which will allow work on the digital documentation of the collections to continue. This will ensure that—even before the future database system becomes available—the objects are recorded and indexed in a fully usable form from the outset.
