In the seminar “Archiving Werkstatt der Kulturen: (Post)Migrant Histories in Berlin Arts” at the Zentrum für Kulturtechnik (HU), students of ethnology and art and visual history examine the Werkstatt der Kulturen’s archive. Established by the Berlin Senate in 1993, the Werkstatt der Kulturen was created as a platform for cultural activities of migrant communities. Active until 2019, it conceived and organised numerous events, including the ‘Karnival der Kulturen’. The institution’s extensive archive, currently under the care of the Zentrum für Kulturtechnik (ZfK) in cooperation with the Migrationsrat Berlin, contains valuable information on cultural, urban, and migration history. The seminar aims to create an initial finding aid for the archive’s holdings, as well as to provide a first examination of the documents and media. Digitales Netzwerk Sammlungen supports the seminar by providing a tool for recording data and presenting selected documents online.
